New Missionary Age Announcement Could Impact BYU-Idaho Enrollment

(REXBURG) – Record enrollment at BYU-Idaho could be reduced by a change in LDS missionary age-requirements. On Saturday, church officials reduced the minimum age for potential male missionaries from 19 to 18, while females can now serve at 19 rather than waiting until they’re 21. Administrators say they’ve received hundreds of inquiries from women about deferring further schooling for missionary service. Church communication director Neylan McBaine says the change will “remove the stigma of unmarried college women and contribute to stronger, more equal marriages.”
