Notre Dame improved to 6-0 with the win.  Kicker Kyle Brindza drilled a 22-yard field goal with 22 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.

After Jones scored, Stanford (4-2) marched down the field to set up a first-and-goal at the Notre Dame four-yard line.

Cardinal runningback Stepfan Taylor ran three times to set up a fourth-and-inches inside the 1, and the Irish defense stuffed him on the game’s final play.

Taylor wound up putting the ball across the goal line, but the officials ruled it was too late because the play was blown dead.  After a replay review, the call stood and the game went final.

Taylor finished the game with 28 carries for 102 yards for Stanford.
