Report: Jets Fear Santonio Holmes Out For the Season
Published at(NEW YORK) — Already down their best defensive player for the rest of the season, the New York Jets may be without arguably their best offensive player. According to a report from Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the team fears that Holmes will miss the rest of the 2012 season with a foot injury.
Holmes went down during the team’s game against the San Francisco 49ers over the weekend.
“I’m not sure how many weeks he’ll be out, the real extent of the injury,” Jets head coach Rex Ryan said. “We know the X-rays were negative. That’s good news. Obviously, it looks doubtful for this week.”
Holmes is one of the few explosvie playmakers the Jets have on offense, and was relied on heavily before suffering the injury. In 2012 he has caught 20 passes for 272 yards with a touchdown.
The team is not expected to sign free agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress, who played with the Jets last season.
