Galapagos Islands Try to Kill 180 Million Rats
Published at(NEW YORK) — The second phase of the Galapagos Island’s rat eradication program began Thursday with a helicopter prepared to drop more than 20 tons of poison.
Authorities say the goal is to rid the islands of all non-native rodents by 2020.
The invasive species have been hurting local bird and reptile populations by feeding on the eggs and hatchlings.
