Home Depot Employee Charged in Bomb, Extortion Plot

It was last month when police found an operational pipe bomb in the lighting department of a Home Depot on Long Island.  Now federal prosecutors have accused a store employee, Daniel Sheehan, of placing the bomb and sending a ransom note to the manager.

The letter, court records say, warned that if Home Depot did not pay $2 million, three pipe bombs would go off in three separate stores, shutting them down on the lucrative Black Friday after Thanksgiving.

The FBI said Sheehan “threatened the safety of untold numbers of innocent people.”
