Redmond Hired as Marlins Manager
Published at(NEW YORK) — Former major league catcher Mike Redmond has been hired as the new Miami Marlins manager on a three-year deal, according to the team.
There will be a news conference to introduce Redmond on Friday.
Redmond will replace Ozzie Guillen, who was fired after one season leading the Marlins to a 69-93 record and a last place finish in the NL East.
Redmond has spent the last two seasons managing on the Class A level in the Toronto Blue Jay’s minor league system.
A .287 hitter over 13 big league seasons, Redmond has caught the second most games in Marlins franchise history with 446. He won a World Series Championship with the team in 2003.
