Hunter spent the past five seasons with the Los Angeles Angels and despite his advanced age, is still considered a very productive player. In 2012, Hunter had one of his best seasons. He hit a career high .313 and his 92 RBIs were his best in a season since 2007.

Detroit made signing Hunter a priority once free agency began as Hunter was one of the better players out on the open market. He will join an already loaded lineup that includes Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, Victor Martinez and Austin Jackson.

Hunter will be 39 after his contract expires with the Tigers.
