He opened the interview by telling Hathaway, “Good to see you, seen a lot of you lately.”

Hathaway, who plays Fantine in the movie adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, showed up at the premiere wearing a black dress, but no underwear according to photographers who snapped away as the star attempted to exit the backseat of a car in a dignified manner.

The actress reluctantly discussed the incident with Lauer — finally saying, “Well, it was obviously an unfortunate incident. It kind of made me sad on two accounts. One was that I was very sad that we live in an age when someone takes a picture of another person in a vulnerable moment and rather than delete it, and do the decent thing, sells it.”

The 30-year-old added, “And I’m sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies sexuality of unwilling participants, which takes us back to Les Mis, because that’s what my character is.”

Les Misérables opens nationwide on Christmas Day.
