“With me starting out as an 18-year-old, it’s become a family,” said a humbled Wright.  “I consider those families part of my extended family.  I can’t thank them enough for the commitment they made.”

With Wright signed through 2020, he has a chance to play his entire career with the Mets; the deal will last until he is 38.  Wright could join the company of Cal Ripken Jr., Chipper Jones, and Derek Jeter have played their entire careers with just one team.

“I’m here today to promise you that I’m going to give everything I have out there to bring a championship back to Queens,” said Wright.  “I’m going to do everything I can to get this organization back going in the direction I think we’re going.”

The Mets last trip to the playoffs came in 2006, when they lost in seven games to the St. Louis Cardinals at home in the NLCS.  A World Series title hasn’t been in the Mets front office since 1986.

“I take a lot of pride of putting this uniform on every day,” he said. “I take a lot of pride in going out there and trying to play hard in front of those fans every day, there’s a lot of good times to come.”

Wright is coming off a season in which he became the Mets all-time leader in hits, runs scored, walks and RBI’s in 2012.
