Published at(PUNTA GORDA, Fla.) — Former San Diego Padres minor league shortstop Matt Bush has been sentenced to 51 months in prison for a drunken-driving hit-and-run crash, which injured a motorcyclist.
In a plea deal with Charlotte County prosecutors, Bush pleaded no contest to driving under the influence with serious bodily injury on Tuesday. Police say Bush’s blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.
The 27-year-old Bush was selected by the Padres with the first overall pick in the 2004 Major League Baseball draft. He was converted to a pitcher in 2007 after struggling at the plate.
Bush also played minor league ball with the Toronto Blue Jays and the Tampa Bay Rays.
