Former President George H.W. Bush Still in ICU

Tom Pennington/Getty Images(HOUSTON) — Former President George H.W. Bush remains in the intensive care unit at Houston’s Methodist Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for what his spokesman described earlier this week as “a series of setbacks,” including “a persistent fever.”
Bush was admitted to the hospital late last month for bronchitis.
The president “continues to improve,” Bush family spokesman Jim McGrath said in a statement Friday. The 88-year-old former president is “alert and, as always, in good spirits,” McGrath said, and “his exchanges with doctors and nurses now include singing.”
McGrath added that doctors “are cautiously optimistic that the current course of treatment will be effective.”
On Wednesday, McGrath announced that the former president’s conditioned had worsened, and that Bush had been in the hospital’s ICU since Sunday.
President Obama was reportedly receiving updates on Bush’s condition.
