Nelson Mandela Being Treated for Lung Infection

Leon Neal/AFP/Getty Images(PRETORIA, South Africa) — Former South African President Nelson Mandela is spending his fourth day in the hospital on Tuesday being treated for a lung infection, according to South Africa’s presidency.
In a statement, the government said, “Doctors have concluded the tests, and these have revealed a recurrence of a previous lung infection, for which Madiba is receiving appropriate treatment and he is responding to the treatment.”
Mandela, 94, who is affectionately known as Madiba in South Africa, was admitted to 1 Military Hospital in Pretoria on Saturday.
This is his third trip to the hospital since 2011.
