Panthers Shock Falcons, 30-20
Published at(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) — Cam Newton passed for 287 yards and had three total touchdowns to lead the Carolina Panthers to a 30-20 upset of the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
He also ran for a 72-yard touchdown in the third quarter en route to a career-high 116 rushing yards.
The Panthers (4-9), despite playing without four starters and have 13 players on injured reserve, took a 16-point lead into halftime and never looked back.
DeAngelo Williams played well in place of the injured Jonathan Stewart, rushing 17 times for 56 yards while also scoring on a 53-yard touchdown pass from Newton.
This game was viewed as payback for the Panthers, who lost 30-28 to Atlanta earlier this season at the Georgia Dome.
Matt Ryan threw for 342 yards, two touchdowns, and one costly interception for Atlanta.
