Steelers’ Tight End Heath Miller Suffers Torn ACL

Ronald Martinez/Getty Images(PITTSBURGH) — As if missing the playoffs wasn’t bad enough, the Pittsburgh Steelers have lost tight end and fan favorite Heath Miller for the final game of the season with a torn ACL.

Miller was injured late in the fourth quarter of the team’s 13-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. The eighth-year tight end will require surgery. He may have also suffered an injury to his PCL, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. His status for the 2013 season is unknown at this time.

“Unfortunately his season comes to an end,” Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said on Monday. “He has been rock solid for us and we really appreciate his efforts. We understand injuries are part of the game, but unfortunately it brings his season to a close.”

This ends an career year for Miller. He caught 71 passes for 816 yards and eight touchdowns, both career highs.

Miller had missed just four games over his eight year career.
