Katy Perry Unveils Her New Popchips Flavor; Does Drag for Ellen DeGeneres

Frazer Harrison/Getty Images for Trevor Project(NEW YORK) — Last month, it was revealed that popchips spokesperson Katy Perry would also help craft a new flavor of the snacks.  Now, the fruits of her labors have been revealed: her new flavor, Katy’s Kettle Corn, debuts in Target stores nationwide this month.  Like actual kettle corn, the new popchips snack is sweet and salty.

“Popchips had never ventured into sweet territory before, but I wanted to add my personal touch when creating a flavor,” Katy says in a statement. “So I rallied behind the idea of kettle corn.”

She explains, “When I snack, I crave a little bit of sweet and a little bit of salt, but I had yet to find a healthier way to satisfy those cravings. When popchips first approached me to be an ambassador, I thought, ‘Hey, this is my chance to create my snacking desire.'”

The singer adds that after a series of “intensive taste tests,” she’s finally created her “dream snack” with Katy’s Kettle Corn.  She also helped design the packaging, choosing pink and purple colors, coming up with the idea of using a photo of the chips in a spotlight, and using a heart to dot the “i” in “chips.”

Katy promoted the new flavor of popchips on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday.  In honor of Ellen’s birthday, Katy dressed in male drag — cheesy, 1970’s style male drag — to serve as the host of a mock game show called Grab Ellen’s Bust.  Katy asked trivia questions about Ellen and her life, and the audience member who got three correct won a trip to Australia.  At the end of the segment, Ellen held up a bag of Katy’s Kettle Corn, and then Katy took a box of them, ran into the audience and tossed them to the cheering crowd.
