Hill underwent an MRI on Friday and it determined that he has loose fragments in addition to a possible torn labrum. Hill has been told that he will likely need surgery to repair the injury, which would require a six month recovery period.

“I’m definitely heartbroken,” Hill said on Friday. “I definitely need surgery. It’s definitely mandatory. They said I have fragments floating around that need to be out. It definitely needs to be done.”

“I’m just more disappointed for Jordan,” Lakers guard Kobe Bryant said. “He’s really worked hard. He played well for us last year, he’s been playing well for us this year. I’m just really disappointed for him.”

The 25-year old Hill was averaging 6.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game this season. He was filling in nicely for the injured Pau Gasol and Dwight Howard as they recover from separate injuries.
