MLB to Test In-Season for HGH

Major League Baseball(PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz.) — A day after no one was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, the MLB and the players’ association have agreed to expand the sport’s drug testing program.
The new test will include in-season blood testing for human growth hormone (H.G.H.) and a new test devised to catch players using testosterone.
The test will allow MLB Commissioner Bud Selig to say his sport has the toughest testing program in all sports.
“This is a very proud day for baseball,” Selig said at the final day of quarterly Owners Meetings on Thursday. “We’ll continue to be a leader in this field and do what we need to do.”
Eight players were suspended in 2012, the most since 2007 due to positive results of H.G.H. The new test will establish baseline levels of testosterone in players, creating a so-called longitudinal profile of each player’s testosterone ratio, according to a New York Times report.
