Espinosa says he suffered the injury back in September, but played through it. He believes he was hurt while diving for a ball, and initially said it was just a bone bruise in his left shoulder socket.

According to CSNWashington.com, Espinosa will not get surgery and will play through the injury. Had he elected for surgery, he would have missed the first two months of the 2013 season at minimum.

Since the end of the 2012 season, he’s focused on building up the muscles in his rotator cuff.

“My swing feels really good, better than it did last year,” Espinosa said. “I’m really confident in my swing right now. Maybe it’s because I have confidence that my shoulder’s alright. But I do feel really good.”

The 25-year-old Espinosa is entering his third full season with the Nationals.
