Short-Handed Celtics Beat Knicks
Published at(NEW YORK) — Without their starting point guard, the Boston Celtics were able to beat the New York Knicks on the road.
Paul Pierce had 23 points and the Celtics defeated the Knicks 102-96 at Madison Square Garden on Monday night.
Kevin Garnett had a double-double for the Celtics (17-17), with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Rondo was serving a one-game suspension for the Celtics, the team the Knicks are trying to dethrone atop the Atlantic division.
“Our goal is bigger and so are the Knicks’, I’m sure, but maybe that’s part of their goal and that’s their first step,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers said of the division. “But our goal is always bigger than that.”
Carmelo Anthony had 20 points on six of 26 shooting for the Knicks (23-11), who lost their fourth home game of the year.
