Tom Cruise’s Relationship with Scientology Explored in New Book

ABC/RICK ROWELL(NEW YORK) — A new book on Scientology claims to shed more light on Tom Cruise’s relationship with the religion.
The Hollywood Reporter has published an excerpt of the Lawrence Wright book Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood, and the Prison of Belief, which will be released next week. In the excerpt, the author claims that Cruise was believed to have been “drifting away” from Scientology during his marriage to Nicole Kidman, but his association with the Church strengthened after the couple divorced in 2001.
According to Wright, the head of the Church, David Miscavige, blamed Kidman for Cruise “drifting away,” and thought she was a “gold digger who was faking Scientology.”
The book states that Cruise grew closer with Miscavige following the actor’s divorce from Kidman, so much so that they reportedly auditioned potential girlfriends for him in 2004 — an allegation previously made in a Vanity Fair article published last year.
The book claims that Cruise once slammed Arnold Schwarzenegger in front of Miscavige, remarking, “If f***ing Arnold can be governor, I could be president.” Miscavige allegedly answered, “Well, absolutely, Tom.”
The book also states that Cruise modeled his character in the 1992 film A Few Good Men on Miscavige.
