(MADISON, Wis.) — Oscar-nominated actor James Cromwell was arrested Thursday after he interrupted a University of Wisconsin Board of Regents meeting in Madison to protest the school’s alleged abuse of cats.
In a video posted on YouTube, Cromwell and a PETA member identified as Jeremy Beckham are seen entering a meeting room while holding signs that showed a cat with a metal device attached to its head. The animal rights group claims the cat was the subject of an experiment at a University of Wisconsin lab.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the 73-year-old Cromwell was led out of the meeting in handcuffs while Beckham went limp on the floor and was dragged from the room. Both are facing charges of disorderly conduct.
Cromwell recently starred in the second season of American Horror Story. His film credits include L.A. Confidential and The Green Mile. He was nominated for an Academy Award as best supporting actor for his role in the 1995 movie Babe.
