Egypt Violence: US ‘Extremely Disturbed’ by Latest Attacks

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(WASHINGTON) — As anti-government protests continue in Egypt, the U.S. State Department is condemning the ongoing violence and is calling on Cairo to investigate all claims of mistreatment from both sides.
“We strongly condemn the recent violence and the attacks that have taken place in Egypt,” State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland said Monday. “We are extremely disturbed by these incidents, including sexual assaults against women and the beating of a defenseless man last week.”
More than 60 people have died in anti-government protests across Egypt that began last month.
