Malkin hurt himself in the third period of the Penguins game Friday against the Florida Panthers. Malkin was speeding down the ice into the Panthers’ zone with the puck. He got a shot off but Florida defenseman Erik Gudbranson lightly pushed Malkin sending him slamming into the end boards. Malkin was able to skate off the ice on his own.

The Penguins website says the team is following NHL protocol for testing.

“There’s nothing to expect from this point,” Bylsma said. “He’s getting evaluated. We’re waiting to see how he feels and reacts. He went into the boards pretty darn hard. We’re not expecting any timeline to the injury or anything.”

Malkin has five goals and 17 assists this season.
