Feds Bust Alleged Multi-State Counterfeit Taxi Parts Ring
Published at | Updated at(NEW YORK) — Federal authorities have arrested three people — two in New Jersey and one in Pennsylvania — who they say were selling fake car parts to taxi fleets.
Authorities say suspects repackaged generic batteries, brake pads and other parts and sold them to taxi fleets as if they were made by Ford or General Motors.
The FBI raided a warehouse in Queens, N.Y., and two warehouses in Paterson, N.J.
There is no telling how many of the fake parts are in cabs right now, but the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission says there is no cause for concern because the fleet is routinely inspected.
