Fish and Game Commission Appointee Faces Opposition

(BOISE, ID)  —   A woman appointed as a member of the Idaho Fish and Game Commission encountered stiff opposition during her Senate confirmation hearing Monday.  Joan Hurlock of Buhl was named to the seven-member panel last June.  However, Doug Palmer, a Twin Falls resident, voiced opposition to Hurlock’s appointment on grounds that she wasn’t a “true sportsman” and thus wasn’t qualified to make decisions about Idaho’s wildlife. State officials disagreed, saying they were impressed with Hurlock’s experience. The committee isn’t expected to vote on Hurlock’s appointment until later this week.
