How Did “Honey Boo Boo” Mom Lose 100 Pounds?
(NEW YORK) — There’s big news from one of reality TV’s now much smaller-in-size stars.
Mama June, the matriarch of TLC’s hit show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, says she’s dropped more than 100 pounds without even trying. In fact, she didn’t notice until her clothes no longer fit.
Despite the show being famous for meals such as ‘sketti,’ made from butter, ketchup and noodles, and ‘go-go juice,’ a combination of Mountain Dew and Red Bull, Mama June has still managed to lose the weight.
In June 2011 she weighed in at 365 pounds. But now, she tells TMZ she shed 102 pounds throughout the last year without dieting, pills, surgery or going to the gym.
“This is the best diet ever,” TMZ senior news producer, Gary Trock, told ABC News. “It is basically, do nothing. The show has kept her so active. She didn’t even realize it at first and then she said her clothes started to feel bigger on her.”
But the dramatic weight loss begs the question of whether or not it is possible to do so without a lifestyle change.
“When you’re obese, weight comes off really quickly,” said New York City’s Barry’s Boot Camp trainer Noah Nieman. “She could be burning 2,000 calories a day just from being active and getting herself out of her comfort zone of sitting on the couch and watching TV.”
Although the matriarch might be shrinking, her empire is growing, earning a reported $15,000 to $20,000 per episode. And Mama June directly deposits the profits into trust funds for the girls.
“They are who you see on TV, and I think that is why people accept them so much and connect with them,” said Trock.
