(SALT LAKE CITY, UT) — Former Utah governor Jon Huntsman Jr. has announced his support for same-sex marriage. Huntsman, who formerly served as U.S. Ambassador to China and ran in the 2012 GOP presidential primary, says gay marriage is something conservatives can and should stand behind. He says allowing consenting adults to marry the person of their choice is a principle of liberty, even if it conflicts with one’s religious convictions. Huntsman previously backed civil unions in 2009 while he was governor.
