(NEW DELHI) — Pockets of violence have been erupting in India on the first day of a two-day strike by labor unions.
Gangs of workers armed with iron rods smashed factory windows and set a fire engine and several cars on fire outside Delhi.
Union members are protesting rising prices and government policies to open the retail, banking, and aviation sectors to foreign investors to help jump-start the country’s flagging economy.
