The 38-year-old announced he’d retire at his old high school in Bessemer City, North Carolina.

“I’m just ready to retire,” Millwood told the Shelby Star. “I feel like I can still throw it well and going out on a high note is a big deal. I just felt like it was time to be closer to home and to be around the kids more often.”

Millwood ends a very solid career that even included an All-Star game appearance in 1999. He also made seven playoff starts when he was with the Atlanta Braves.

An 11th-round pick in the 1993 draft by the Atlanta Braves, Millwood was 169-152 for his career. He pitched for the Braves, Phillies, Indians, Rangers, Orioles, Rockies, and Mariners. In 2002, Millwood went 18-8 with a 3.24 ERA.

In 2003, Millwood threw a no-hitter and took part in a no-hitter last season while with Mariners.
