Robert De Niro Honored in Cement at TCL Chinese Theatre
Published at(LOS ANGELES) — Robert De Niro on Monday morning was honored outside Hollywood’s TCL Chinese Theatre, where he placed his handprints and footprints into cement.
His Analyze This co-star, Billy Crystal, and his Silver Linings Playbook director, David O. Russell, spoke at the ceremony.
The 69-year-old De Niro cracked a few jokes when it was his turn to address the crowd, including one that referenced his Raging Bull and Goodfellas co-star, Joe Pesci.
He quipped, “Joe Pesci always said I would end up with my feet in cement. I don’t think this is what he had in mind.”
De Niro emphasized the attachment he feels for Hollywood.
He said, “I’m a New Yorker. It’s where I was born. It’s where I live. It’s where I raised my kids. It’s where I started a film festival. It’s home. But Hollywood is home too.”
A rep for the theatre tells TMZ.com that it later fixed a typo in De Niro’s block of cement — he had incorrectly dated it 2/14/13, rather than 2/4/13.
De Niro, who’s won two Academy Awards during his career, is nominated for the upcoming Oscars ceremony for his performance in Silver Linings Playbook.
