A Newark, N.J., grand jury refused to indict Krentcil Tuesday.

“We presented all the available evidence in the case to the grand jury, both the state’s evidence and the defense’s evidence,” said Assistant Essex County Prosecutor Gina Iosim. “The grand jurors voted not to indict Mrs. Krentcil. We respect their decision.”

Krentcil was arrested last April for allegedly violating a state law banning children under 14 from using tanning salons. Police became involved after school officials noticed burns on the legs of Krentcil’s then-5-year-old daughter.

The 44-year-old Nutley, N.J., mom celebrated her victory by lashing out at reporters.

Cursing at them to leave her property, Krentcil said, “Yeah I like to tan. I don’t think that’s a crime. And I still like to tan.”
