In a recent interview with Yahoo! Sports, Verlander made it known that he hopes to become the first pitcher to sign a $200 million contract. Verlander feels that type of contract is well deserving.

“I don’t play this game to make the most money,” Verlander said. “But I do feel like it would be nice to be compensated for what I feel like I’ve been; one of the best, if not the best, the last few years. In my career, I feel like I’ve been one of the top. But the last two years, I’ve kind of separated myself, me and a handful of other guys.”

If there was any pitcher who could receive that type of contract, Verlander very well may get it. The former American League MVP and Cy Young Award winner, Verlander has gone 41-13 over the past two seasons for the Tigers.

Verlander, 30, will not become a free agent till after the 2014 season. It remains to be seen if he will get that type of commitment financially once he’s reaches free agency.
