Mitchell Layton/Getty Images(PHILADELPHIA, Pa.) — Bracket buster (15) Florida Gulf Coast (25-10) stunned (2) Georgetown (25-7) 78-68 in the South Region on Friday night.
Eagles guard Sherwood Brown was the hero with 24 points and nine rebounds in the huge victory over the Hoyas. Bernard Thompson added 23 in the stunner for Florida Gulf Coast.
Hoyas guard Markel Starks did everything he could with two late three-pointers late in the game, but the Eagles would not let their lead slip away. Starks finished the game with 23 points.
The Eagles are in their sixth year as a Division I school.
