Health Effects of Bacon: Study Finds Higher Risk of Premature Death
(NEW YORK) — Bad news, bacon lovers. A new study finds that eating processed meat like ham, hot dogs, and bacon is linked to dying prematurely.
Researchers studied half a million people over a dozen years and found that people who ate the equivalent of just two sausages and a slice of bacon per day had a 44 percent higher risk of dying early from heart disease, cancer or other ailments.
Experts think it’s because of the preservatives used in the meats.
The research is published in the journal BMC Medicine.
