(BOISE, ID) – A recent plaque placed in the Idaho Statehouse contains a quote from Abraham Lincoln that might not be real. The plaque was put up last week to celebrate Idaho’s 150th anniversary as a U.S. territory. The quote reads “There is both a power and a magic in public opinion. To that, let us now appeal.” Some Lincoln historians are disputing the veracity of the quote, because it doesn’t appear in any transcripts of Lincoln’s speeches. Experts say it’s a secondhand source written by a Chicago attorney from the Lincoln era, but has never been verified with other sources from the period
