The Cardinals played with some heavy hearts. Sophomore guard Kevin Ware suffered a broken right leg when he he fell awkwardly after attempting to block Tyler Thornton’s 3-point shot with 6:33 left in the first half. Ware was taken off the court in a stretcher while several Louisville teammates cried.

“It was really hard for me to pull myself together because I didn’t think ever in a million years I’d see something like that,” Russ Smith said when talking about watching Ware go down. “And especially that it happened to a guy like Kevin Ware.”

But Smith and his teammates did get it together outscoring Duke (30-6), 50-31 in the second half en route to victory.

Louisville (33-5) will now take on Wichita St. for a the right to play in the National Championship game, next Saturday in Atlanta.
