(DENVER) — Center Ryan O’Reilly is staying with the Colorado Avalanche.
Just hours after the Calgary Flames signed the 22-year-old to an offer sheet Thursday, the Colorado Avalanche matched it keeping the youngster.
According to USA Today, the contract is for two-years, and is worth $10 million.
“I think I’ve said it all along throughout the process the last several years that we’ve done a job of identifying our core and we acted very quickly this past summer to sign those core players and Ryan was part of that,” Avalanche general manager Greg Sherman said at a press conference. “We made efforts throughout the summer to get Ryan under contract, so yes. I do see Ryan as part of our core, no question.”
O’Reilly scored 18 goals and had 37 assists for the Avalanche last season.
