Stocks Finish Higher; S&P Just Misses Record Close
Published at(NEW YORK) — A couple of encouraging reads on the economy Tuesday pushed the markets well into positive territory.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 111.90 points at 14,559.65, coming close to its all-time high. The Nasdaq Composite added 17.18 points to finish at 3,252.48. The S&P 500 came within a little over a point of a record high close to close the session up 12.08 points at 1,563.77.
The Dow and the S&P both saw their best gains in three weeks.
New home sales fell 4.6 percent last month, but that doesn’t worry the National Association of Homebuilders. They say the drop comes after a huge gain in January. It could be that bad weather may have kept prospective buyers from house hunting in February.
