WATCH: First Dog Gets YouTube Date, Marriage Invitation

The first dog has joined the growing list of celebrities who’ve been invited to go out on a date in a YouTube video posted for all to see.
In the video, set to the jaunty vocals of the Marvelettes’ “Please Mr. Postman,” Ramona the 3-year-old goldendoodle can be seen thinking about not having a date for the Oregon Humane Society’s Doggie Dash on May 11 in Portland.
Ramona’s next thoughts — illustrated by white dialogue clouds — are inspired: “Maybe … I should invite Bo Obama!!”
The dog tries several methods to reach Bo: she has no luck on Twitter (she’s shown “typing” at a computer keyboard); she tries Facebook (still no luck), and even calls him up (“What do you mean he doesn’t have a cellphone?”).
So she composes a letter. The handwriting was shaky and words were misspelled, but the message to the famous 4-year-old Portuguese water dog was clear: “Dear Bo, will u goz to Doggie Dash wit me? Romona.”
A formal invitation across the screen later on asked the first dog to be the event’s “Grand Dog Marshal … And Marry Ramona, if you like!”
The video is part of the Oregon Humane Society’s campaign to get support for its 26th annual Doggie Dash, a fundraising event.
David Lytle, a spokesman for the independent nonprofit, said the invitation to the first dog was a way to “highlight shelter pets and raise their profile.”
“It’s not just a stunt,” he said, adding that the organization was working with Oregon Congressional delegations to get the invitation to the right hands in the White House. “It would be a big boon to shelter pets. (Bo) was not adopted from a shelter and the Obamas made a lot of statements (that) they wanted a shelter pet and then they got Bo as a gift, kind of out of the blue, so this is their opportunity to come out and show their support for animals that are less well off and that need a lot of loving TLC that they just don’t get.”
The humane society hasn’t heard back from Bo, but it’s holding out hope.
“What could be more enticing than a wonderful pitch from a fluffy white goldendoodle,” Lytle said.
The humane society has also set up a petition on Change.org to seek support for getting Bo to the event. As of early Friday morning, there were 697 signatures.
