The employee, who has not been identified, threw a pot of hot coffee in the alleged robber’s face when the man tried to climb through the restaurant’s drive-thru window, police said.

The attempted robbery happened around 11 p.m. Saturday at a Dunkin’ Donuts in West Haven, Conn., when a man pulled to the drive-thru window and asked for change for a $100 bill, according to a post on the West Haven Police Department’s Facebook page.

When the clerk refused, the man declared he was robbing the store and attempted to crawl through the drive-thru window.  On surveillance video captured by the store, the clerk can be seen trying to shut the window and, when that fails, throwing coffee at the man.

The clerk’s hot coffee deterrent worked and the man drove off without stealing anything, according to police.

Police were still searching for the suspect whom, they say, made his escape in a white Ford Explorer.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to contact the West Haven Police Department at 203-937-3905.

Police did not immediately return ABC News’ calls requesting additional information.
