Wendy Raquel Robinson Dishes on New Season of “The Game”

Courtesy of BET Productions(NEW YORK) — Fans of BET’s The Game are wondering what the new season will bring in the wake of two cast members leaving, and two new faces arriving.
Wendy Raquel Robinson, who plays Tasha Mack on the top-rated series, admits the show “does change” this season, with some of those changes being “bittersweet,” but fans should tune in to see “unexpected turns” and of course more drama.
“It’s fresh. It’s new. It’s still the same drama/comedy…but I do like the addition,” Robinson tells ABC News Radio, referring to new cast members Lauren London and Jay Ellis. “I think it’s going to help. You know every now and then we need to get re-energized and resuscitated.”
The series, which centers on a fictional football team, made headlines last year when star Tia Mowry-Hardrict and her TV husband, Pooch Hall, left the show.
London and Ellis will join the cast as Keira Michelle Whitaker and Bryce “Blue” Westbrook, respectively. Whitaker is a former child star trying to get back into acting. Westbrook is a new rookie for the San Diego Sabers.
Robinson reveals to ABC News Radio that the show’s producers “didn’t tell us anything” about the changes, but they did share that “it was going to be hard to continue on with the storyline.”
Robinson admits that “does make a lot of sense. If [Hall’s Derwin Davis] gets traded and [Mowry-Hardrict’s Melanie Davis is] off at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore — we’re set in San Diego — so it would’ve been a little convoluted.”
Still, Robinson says the departures were tough, especially Mowry-Hardrict’s.
“Personally that’s my little sister so it was devastating. But now in retrospect so many other opportunities have come to her: movies, her own show and then she got a reality show. So…it’s still hard, but it’s a blessing in a disguise for her as well,” Robinson says.
And when asked about Hall’s recent subliminal tweets that were deemed by other cast members as “negative” and “irresponsible,” Robinson said she understands.
“It’s kind of like going through a bad divorce and there’s the love of your life getting married again. How do you act?…It’s a knee jerk reaction. He’ll get over it and that wound will heal,” she says.
So, what can fans expect from Robinson’s tell-it-like-it-is character, Tasha Mack? She reveals a love triangle between her boyfriend Pookie and Rick Fox, who plays himself on the series.
“I’m so in love with Pookie, but it’s kind of like, ‘Wow, here comes Satan. And Satan is fine as hell.’ So it’s like what do you do?” she says.
Robinson’s character will also have her hands full with her son Malik Wright, played by Hosea Chanchez. Malik apparently falls off the wagon on the premiere episode. However, Robinson tells ABC News Radio that he won’t be down in the dumps for long because he plans to look “outside of football” to search for another career path.
The Game’s sixth season and its 100th episode debuts on BET Tuesday at 10 p.m. Eastern time.
