The body of Shjon Brown was found beneath the snow machine inside the crevasse, buried beneath 6 to 8 feet of snow, according to Alaska State Troopers.

An autopsy will be performed on the body, police said.

Brown was riding his snow machine in the Hoo Doo Mountains near Fairbanks Saturday.

He fell into a roughly 200-foot-deep hole around 3:30 p.m.

According to the Fairbanks Nes-Miner, the boy fell into a hole called a moulin. Common in the mountains, moulins are formed when spring water flowing onto the mountains erodes the ice below.

The boy’s goggles and helmet were recovered Saturday, but searchers could not locate Brown’s body until hours later.
