He was sent home. His departure means just one guy, Lazaro Arbos, is left in the remaining top six. Janelle Arthur was in the bottom two with Burnell, but she’ll be back next week.

The top three vote-getters this week were, in no particular order, Angie Miller, Kree Harrison and Lazaro. All four judges revealed their personal top three picks Thursday night, and none of them came up with this exact lineup. Angie and Kree were in everyone’s top three, but Keith Urban, Randy Jackson and Nicki Minaj all thought Amber Holcomb would be in the top three instead of Lazaro. Mariah Carey predicted Candice Glover would round out the top three, and mentor Jimmy Iovine went so far as to predict Lazaro would be going home this week.

The top seven contestants continued this week’s rock theme, singing Queen’s “Somebody to Love.”  Season nine finalist Casey James returned to sing his latest country single, “The Good Life,” and then presented a few gifts to the top seven contestants. Former Idol champ Carrie Underwood performed her brand-new single, “See You Again,” from her latest album, Blown Away.

American Idol’s top six contestants perform again next Wednesday night at 8 Eastern on FOX.  Each of the six will perform two songs: music from the songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David, and a song they wish they had written.  Original Idol champ, Kelly Clarkson, will return to perform her new single, “People Like Us.” Season 10 winner Scotty McCreery will also perform.
