Ortiz, whose struggles on the ballroom dance floor had often put him at or near the bottom of the leader board during his six weeks on the show, smiled when it was announced he was going home.  He hugged his pro dance partner, Lindsay Arnold, and received a standing ovation from the ballroom audience.

The 26-year-old Ortiz declared, “I had a blast. I made great friends…it was a heck of an experience.”  He called his ballroom competitors “beautiful people.”

The boxer was at the bottom of the leader board going into Tuesday’s results show after his Monday night rumba failed to dazzle the judges.  The couple with the lowest combined total of judges’ scores and viewers’ votes is eliminated from the competition.

Tuesday’s results show also featured live musical performances from will.i.am and Olly Murs.

Bachelor star Sean Lowe, Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman, Disney star Zendaya, country music singer Kellie Pickler, NFL player Jacoby Jones, soap opera star Ingo Rademacher and comedian Andy Dick are still in the competition and will be back next week with their pro partners to compete in a challenge entitled “Latin Night.”

Dancing with the Stars returns next Monday at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
