The Netherlands-based Mars One nonprofit will accept applications starting in July for people interested in colonizing the red planet 10 years from now.

No previous space travel experience is required.  All that’s needed is a one-minute video explaining why you want to go to Mars.

Mars One will announce more details about the trip next week, which they want to turn into the ultimate reality TV show.  Mars One figures the entire enterprise will cost about $6 billion, give or take a few dollars.

There are just three minor catches if you’re interested.  One is that you need to be 18.  Second is that the application fee is $25.  And lastly, you have to be willing to leave Earth forever.

That final one could be a deal-breaker for a lot of folks.
