(NEW YORK) — Christopher Abbott, who plays Charlie on the hit HBO series Girls, has abruptly left the series.
Abbott’s rep confirmed his departure to ABC News Radio.
“Chris Abbott is grateful for the experience of collaborating with [show creator] Lena [Dunham], Judd [Apatow], and the entire Girls cast and crew, but right now he’s working on numerous other projects and has decided not to return to the show,” the rep said.
The New York Post reports the actor, who portrayed the on-again boyfriend of Allison Williams’ character Marnie, had creative differences with Dunham.
A source tells the newspaper, “They’ve just started work on Season 3, and Chris is at odds with Lena. He didn’t like the direction things are going in, which seems a bit odd since the show put him on the map.”
Dunham mysteriously tweeted Wednesday, “A new insult, to use never and aimed at no one: ‘Her? She’s so difficult she could have creative differences with a kidney bean!'”
