(ROBERTS, ID)  —   High winds have forced the Idaho Transportation Department to shut down a portion of I-15.   The closure is between mileposts 119 and 134 between Idaho Falls and Roberts.   Blowing dust has decreased visability in that area and could be a potential hazard.   Further updates as they become available.

Northbound I-15 traffic is being detoured to U.S. 20 in Idaho Falls and then from U.S. 20 in Rigby to Idaho 48, which runs to Roberts and I-15.

Southbound traffic is redirected from I-15 to Idaho 48 in Roberts and then from Idaho 48 to U.S. 20 in Rigby, then south to I-15 in Idaho Falls.

The transportation department estimates the interstate will reopen late tonight, when the wind is expected to subside. The National Weather Service forecasts sustained winds of 35 to 45 mph this afternoon and evening, with gusts of up to 60 mph.

Motorists should drive with extreme care and observe traffic signs and signals. High winds make for highly dangerous driving conditions. Drivers are encouraged to visit www.511.gov or call 5-1-1 for the latest highway conditions.
