Justice Breyer Released from the Hospital
Published at(WASHINGTON) — Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer was released from a Washington area hospital Monday, after undergoing surgery for a shoulder he fractured in a bike accident on Friday.
On Saturday, a court spokeswoman announced that Breyer had undergone a, “reverse shoulder replacement surgery for a proximal humerus fracture.” Breyer fell from his bicycle Friday while riding near the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington. After the fall he was taken by ambulance to the hospital. According to the spokeswoman, Breyer expects to be wearing a sling in the near future, but she released no more information about his condition.
Breyer, 74, who was appointed to the bench by President Clinton in 1994, was absent Monday morning when the Court announced two opinions. The Justices are expected to take the bench again May 13.
