(NEW YORK) — As Will Ferrell accepted the Comedic Genius Award at the MTV Movie Awards Sunday night, Aubrey Plaza walked onto the stage and attempted to snatch his prize away from him.
Initially, it appeared as if it may have been a pre-planned bit — Ferrell asked the Parks and Recreation actress if she was OK, she returned to her seat after a brief struggle, and Ferrell remarked, “Just like we rehearsed it.” But MTV says it was an unexpected moment.
MTV.com writes that during the commercial break that followed Plaza’s Kayne West-like interruption, she was “escorted out of the venue by MTV executives and the head of Viacom security without incident.” Minutes later, the website says, she left the Culver City, Calif., lot where the ceremony was being held.
Plaza has since tweeted, “thanks for the advice @kanyewest went better than planned!”
The 28-year-old Plaza was probably trying to drum up publicity for her new film, The To Do List. The title of the movie was written on her chest at the time she crashed the stage.
The telecast, hosted by Rebel Wilson, was seen by 3.8 million viewers, an increase from last year’s audience of 3.2 million, according to Deadline.com.
If you didn’t get enough of Wilson on Sunday night, MTV has released a True Life spoof in which she poses as the “twin sister” of Jennifer Lawrence, who won a couple of awards but was absent from the ceremony.
