The 38-year-old Jeter had been working out at the team’s minor league complex in Tampa, Florida. On Thursday, he went to Charlotte, N.C. for an examination by Dr. Robert Anderson, who performed the operation.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said a new CT scan revealed a small crack in the area of the original injury. The team says Jeter will rest until it is healed.

The 13-time All-Star suffered the injury last October, during Game 1 of the American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers.
